Kings of Leon have been around for as long as I can remember. They may not be churning out anthems like “Sex on Fire” and “Use Somebody” these days, but new single “My Whole World” proves the Nashville band still have plenty of depth in their locker. It’s taken from their new album “O My Beloved,” out on 6 November.

What’s the verdict?
A tender, beautifully crafted slow burner and one of the most personal things Kings of Leon have released in years. It won’t fill dance floors, but it’s hard to find fault with.
What does it sound like?
A laid back acoustic guitar opens the song, and it feels like sitting in a small acoustic lounge. Bass and vocals arrive almost together, followed by a soft drum rhythm. It’s warm, unhurried and country tinged, continuing the band’s gradual return to their Nashville roots.
For fans of: Band of Horses, My Morning Jacket, Glen Campbell.
What’s the song about?
Caleb wrote “My Whole World” after breaking his foot trying to hurdle the sofa during a game of tag with his kids, an injury that cancelled the band’s 2025 European shows. The opening line came to him while he was looking at his family’s countdown to a cruise, but the song isn’t really about a holiday. It’s a thank you to the people closest to him, full of family gatherings, recipes passed round under a pin oak tree and slices of peanut butter pie.
Is it better than their last single?
It’s a change of direction more than a straight comparison. The brazen rock that took them to the top has been swapped for something gentler and more personal, and that tenderness suits them far more than you might expect.
What’s the best moment?
0:18
The guitar lead. Clean, unhurried picking in the style of early Glen Campbell records, with melodic lines that answer the vocal rather than compete with it.
